Guidance Counselor |
Welcome to "The Counselor's Corner," the Guidance section of the Live Oak
Middle School web page. Your school counselors, Mrs. Owen and Ms. Kistrup, are very excited to have the opportunity to use this new
tool as a way to make some information available to you that may be helpful in
dealing with your child.
Open House is used at the beginning of the school year as an
opportunity of providing informative handouts and pamphlets on coping with the
middle school years. Please feel free to call or come by the school to
discuss your individual concerns.

Enrolling a Student at Live Oak Middle:
Students must reside in Live Oak Middle's School District with
their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) in order to be eligible for enrollment.
The district requires three proofs of residency. Documents which may be used
are:
- A copy of a lease.
- Signed purchase agreement.
- Utility or light bill.
In addition to the three proofs of residency, the following
documents are also required for registration of students:
- A copy of the student's birth certificate.
- A valid Certificate of Immunization.
- Student's Social Security card.
- Previous report card and/or transfer sheet.

Withdrawing a Student from Live Oak Middle:
The guidance office will need a 24 hour notice when withdrawing
students. This will enable us to collect text and library books, and make sure
all fees are current and in order to successfully complete enrollment in the new
school. Thank you for your continued cooperation.

Make-Up Homework for Sick Days
Call the Guidance Office (225-664-3211) in the morning and ask
for your child's assignments. You will be able to pick up the assignments twenty
four hours later.

Guidance Services
Live Oak Middle has an "open door" policy for
guidance services. If a student is in crisis and needs to see us, they may come
to the guidance office and we will be sure to let their teacher know they are in
the guidance office. However, not all situations are of crisis nature and may
wait for a scheduled appointment. Students may schedule appointments during
homeroom, clubs, during their lunch period and at recess.
Some of the services provided by the guidance counselor are as follows:
 | Provide individual counseling |
 | Meet regularly with teachers and parents |
 | Participate on the Student Building Level Committee (SBLC) |
 | Assist eighth graders in the high school course selection process |
 | Assist in career exploration, Career Shadowing, and the Building Bridges
Program (career software) |
 | Support and sponsor the Lifers Club |
 | Advise Peer Mediators / Teacher Mentors |
 | Organize and run support groups |
