Welcome to Live Oak Middle School's web site!

For those of you who are visiting us for the very first time, I would like to let you know a little about our school. Live Oak Middle School is located in the fast-growing community of Watson, Louisiana and has a population of almost 700 students, 2 administrators, 40 faculty and staff, two secretaries, three aides, four custodians and ten cafeteria employees. We provide educational instruction in grades six, seven and eight.

Over the years, by placing an emphasis on academics, we have consistently placed among the top in Livingston Parish on standardized (ITBS) and norm referenced (LEAP) testing. Our success is attributed to our wonderful school district, teachers, parents and students.

In the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (LEAP), we surpassed the state and district averages in all areas and ranked second in the parish for 8th grade.

We are striving to help our students continue to excel here at Live Oak Middle. One specific area we are continuing to target this year is that of student attendance. It is our belief that students who attend school regularly have a better chance of succeeding in the classroom as well as on standardized and norm referenced testing.

We have initiated several new programs around the school such as REACH classes, a school computer lab, and HeartBeeps skills improvement program. In the near future, our school library will have a classroom size bank of 32 computers for research and technology instruction. This year, our school librarian will be implementing flexible instead of fixed library scheduling with collaborative teaching of library skills to students. Tutoring is offered for each student in every subject area.

Our students have done a wonderful job overall with the new school uniform policy. We appreciate the parents' help and cooperation in following this new dress code policy.

I would like to encourage all parents who receive regular communication via email to sign up for Eagle Email. Live Oak Middle School news announcements and newsletters will be delivered to your email address. Weekly homework will still be written by the student and brought home in the school portfolio.
